| Proposal for Big Box Development Withdrawn-What's Next? |
|
View of existing site and neighborhood looking west-Madison HS (SW corner)
SmartCentres has withdrawn their conditional use application for developing the site on NE 82nd. The permit would have expanded the current zoning from 60,000 sq ft to 240,000 sq ft. Madison South and Roseway neighborhoods rallied more than 2,200 supporters. In this new phase, neighborhood leaders are building on the momentum to envision a sustainable future for NE 82nd Avenue. This includes collaborating with the property owner of the site, the developer, local agencies and the community. As well, the idea of integrating visionPDX goals and other planning initiatives are in the works. Community leaders are excited about working together beyond neighborhood boundaries to create a livable community along NE 82nd. | Restorative Listening Event on Gentrification Oct. 15 |
Are you Confused? Concerned? Curious? about gentrification issues in Portland. Please join us to learn more at a Restorative Listening Circle. Hear the stories of how gentrification has impacted long term members of the community on Monday October 15th @7p, Moore Street Salvation Army, 5325 N. Williams Ave. Restorative Listening Events are based on the principles of Restorative Justice which says that only when those most impacted are heard, acknowledged and efforts have been made to repair the harm can the community be made whole again. Once the following questions are answered -What happened? Who was harmed? How were they harmed? and How can the harm be repaired?- We can identify ways to move forward. | Metro's Nature in Neighborhoods Capital Grants program |
Do you have an idea that increases the presence of natural features, improves the appearance of neighborhoods, enriches peoples' experience of nature and helps strengthen a physical connection to the region's ecology? If so, a new capital grants program offered by Metro can help you make it happen. The Metro Council's 2006 Natural Areas Bond Measure included $15 million for grants that inspire innovative capital projects on public lands. Since this program is funded by the bond measure, the projects must qualify as capital projects. The grant handbook will give more information on project eligibility, and Metro staff is more than happy to talk with you about your project. There is no deadline for applications and letters of interest can be submitted at any time. Visit www.metro-region.org/naturalareas or contact Mary Rose Navarro at (503) 797-1781 navarrom@metro.dst.or.us.

The draft will be available at www.metro-region.org. Comments may be submitted via mail, fax, email or through testimony provided at public hearings. | Metro Creates Regional Affordable Housing Fund |
| The Metro Council unanimously approved the allocation of $1 million to establish a regional affordable housing fund. The Regional Housing Choice Revolving Fund would help implement the 2040 Growth Concept by encouraging mixed-use, mixed-income patterns of development in regional centers and town centers, in light rail station communities, and along main streets and corridors. The Fund is a critically needed tool for expanding housing opportunity for working families and others throughout the region who are at risk of being priced out their communities, and benefit most from housing that is located at or close to high capacity public transit and other services. |
